The Queenship of Mary Feast Day by Ann Walker
That song was a staple during the Month of May. In the General Roman Calendar, Pope Pius XII designated August 22nd as the Feast Day of the Queenship of Mary. We have another chance to sing Hail, Holy Queen! What is this Feast Day all about? I think of it as another great reason to celebrate her life as the beloved Mother of Jesus, our King.
When Her time was done on Earth, Mary was assumed into Heaven and sits at Jesus’ side. I envision that the Angels are surrounding Her in a choir of beautiful music—perfect for a Queen!
Besides the acknowledgement of Mary’s Queenship, people have used many special names to address Her. I find it fascinating that She is honored with such interesting titles—some formal and less formal titles. Here are some names I have found:
Especially as we celebrate the feast day of the Queenship of Mary, we recall that we have such a loving Mother to give us the hope and strength we need on our Earthly journey and to guide us along the right paths so that we may be united with Mary and Jesus in Heaven someday.
Since Mary is the Queen of Heaven and the Mother of us all, we believe that Mary speaks to Jesus on our behalf and offers Him our prayers. It is up to us to come to Mary and lay our requests at Her feet. She will see to it that Jesus knows what is in our hearts.
