SEATED MADONNA & CHILD - 6.5" STONE/RESIN - HUMMEL

Hummel-inspired -  this touching figure features elements found in the famous original drawings Sister Maria Innocentia Hummel O.S.F., a German nun. Born in 1909, she died in 1946 at the age of 37. She had suffered with her convent (250 nuns before the Nazis made them leave) through World War II, supported them with her drawings and made quite a name for herself and her art.

Just as Sister M.I. Hummel's illustrations, and later the figurines based on those illustrations, won admiring fans worldwide, so, too, will this Hummel-inspired Madonna figurine holding Baby Jesus and a rosary at the same time, win your heart. There is a Museum of Hummels in Rosemont, IL, housing what is said to be the largest  collection of Hummel figurines in the world.
